Here I Am

When you met me, I wasn’t very nice. Your friends told me that I was a Player. They told you that I would use you up and leave you.

But here I am.

Here I am, asking you to be with another man. Asking you to go with him. Maybe for the whole night. And a night is long. The thrill takes on shadows. Doubts. I can’t tell the difference between the shivers of excitement and fearful shakes.

Dawn is a cruel checkpoint. It tells me you will be home soon. The long night, the wait, is over. But as the light breaks you are still in his arms. In his bed. In his dreams. It will be hours, still.

Sleepless and aching I wait.
