School Knickers

When I was a teenager, there were two private girls' schools near to where I lived. And at one they had to wear navy blue knickers, and at the other they had to wear bottle green knickers. And this absolutely fascinated me, and it still does. At my school they mainly wore plain white ones. I wonder if there are any schools left that still have rules regarding what sort of underwear their girls should wear? I think that these days the girls would strongly object if the teachers took an interest in their knickers, and so would the parents.

For a modern take on the traditional navy blue school knickers try Fantasie Smoothease Invisible Stretch briefs and full briefs, they feel great on, plus there's not much material between your cheeks and a plimsoll when you bend over....

I went to a quirky private primary school where all the girls wore navy blue knickers. How do I know? Well for PE the girls had to tuck their skirts into their knickers which were then on full display. Happy days!

This is from the old Friends Reunited site, it may well be true as it doesn't contain the normal over the top detail made up stories have: `Miss Divers was VERY strict. She caned me twice for talking too much. I remember that I was wearing shorts under my dress because we were going to have P.E. that day and when she went to hit the back of my legs with the cane she got all annoyed because I had first the dress, then a frilly petticoat, then the shorts. Whacked me harder because of it I think.'

It wasn't the same for boys! The P word would be used & no doubt on the News, if State Schools implemented what underwear girls must wear. It's probably OK at private schools. It was navy knickers at my P & Secondary, almost the same school, the last school I went to had no uniform policy, which lead to plenty of shaming & jealousy. If not wearing the latest clothing trend, Pringle jumper were the one I would have gone for, but my mother wouldn't pay those prices. Tracksuits were getting big & have a lot to answer for in ruining P.E kits, which the girls had to change into Bottle (green) ones. Why! My sister often teased me with having to wear Girls'School Knickers. Maybe she new something, or just that she was the eldest & bossiest of us siblings!

至 old-bi-guy1953 : I too prefer "proper" high waisted cuff-legged knickers, they are somehow more feminine and flattering. I thought men preferred thongs and g-strings. I don't know of any sport that involves stockings, but I do have some "over the knee" socks xx

至 taraminiskirt : Probably a couple of years' worth of lost property. None of them have name tags so they were probably sent off to the school's laundary and never found their way back to their owners. A friend of mine sent her offspring to boarding schools and she was told to sew cash's name tags into every single item of clothing.

至 old-bi-guy1953 : I enjoy watching the netball because their dresses and skirts are very short and "flippy" (flared). Also because they're all very pretty and fit (at national level) and they move their bodies in interesting and unusual ways. So I sometimes think that the netball ladies are sexier than the lady track athletes who don't wear any dresses or skirts at all.

至 taraminiskirt : I've got a couple of pairs of genuine 1940s and 50s school knickers, they would be quite tight depending on the size of the bum! What does make them different is that they have the cuffed legs. I got lucky one day around 1990 I walked into a charity shop opposite a private girls' school and found a whole load of blue gymknickers in various sizes, and only 10p a pair, I bought the lot! I think they'd come out of the school's lost property. Various girlfriends have worn them since.

At my school in the 1970s they wore tight blue nylon gymknickers and an aertex shirt for games and this included the fifth form girls who had some very shapely bottoms.

Well quite, it's a very divisive subject, or could be... I'm into just about any sort of ladies underwear as long as there's a short skirt or dress involved... and possibly stockings as well (although not essential...lol)

至 old-bi-guy1953 : Yes. But at what point to the shorts become knickers and the knickers become shorts? The tight gym shorts worn by female athletes and netball players of today are very similar to the regulation knickers from the 1970s and 1980s, and are extremely sexy. By contrast, the school knickers from the 1950s, that some people still think were very sexy (apparently) were very baggy and made of a very thick material, in addition to being high-waisted and cuff-legged.

mmmm... always was very much turned on by schoolgirls in gym knickers... was always a supporter of netball, hockey and the like. When I was at school, girls always had to wear those short skirts with bottle green knickers... I stopped being a supporter when many of them went to wear shorts instead!!

The school I went to had black knickers as part of the girls' PE kit, but that was it. I don't think any schools still have such rules, even for PE.

I suppose what fascinated me was the idea that black knickers were "okay" to show in PE, mostly under a gym skirt, but not really any other colours. Unless people wanted to be embarrassed and gossiped about.

It seemed "normal" at the time but then after a few years they were allowed to wear shorts, after that on the few occasions when it came up in conversation everyone thought it seemed a bit weird.
